Senior Electrical Design Engineer Location York, GB Primary Job Responsibilities

Based in the M&E Design Department at the York office of Jacobs Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for the generation and checking of electrical designs for predominately rail applications. The job will entail receiving Network Rail scope of works at any GRIP stage and producing suitable electrical designs and specifications to comply with the project requirement, Network Rail and British/European standards.
This role will require checking the designs of, and assisting junior design engineers within the department. The designs are produced using Microstation or AutoCAD and calculations performed on Hevacomp or Amtech software. The position is mainly office based but will require occasional site visits to carryout surveys as part of the design process and to attend technical and progress meetings with the client and visit other Jacobs offices involved in each project. The majority of designs involve points heating, internal and external lighting schemes, small scale building services, and the integration of new and old 650V signalling power supplies.
Responsibilities include:
· Produce time/cost estimates and program for designs
· Interpret a client scope of works to produce a compliant design
· Work within small multi disciplinary teams and across multiple, concurrent projects
· Liaise with Jacobs staff at all levels within the project team and across other disciplines
· Develop and maintain the working relationship with the Client Engineer
· Maintain and update project schedule
Training and Experience
Essential skills / experience required
Extensive electrical engineering background required, ideally from various industries.
· CEng/BEng Electrical Engineering or similar MIET is desirable however, HND Electrical Engineering MIET will also be considered
· Applicatants should have rail experience and should possess C&G 2382 (BS7671 17th Edition Wiring)
Experience of designing electrical systems through to construction level detail should include:
· 230/400V power distribution
· Cable size and protection calculations
· 650V signalling supplies
· Points heating systems
· Earthing and bonding
· Small scale building services (power/lighting/fire/intruder)
· Internal/External lighting schemes
· Secure power supply systems (PSP/SSP, UPS/generator)
· Site surveys including load monitoring/analysis
· AutoCAD, Hevacomp, Amtech, MS Office software
· Network Rail, British, European Standards
Desirable skills / experience
· The ability to design Principal Supply Points for UPS/generator systems and 650V IT distribution systems
· Experience of Third Rail DC systems design
· Practical knowledge and application of the installation, testing and commissioning of Railway electrical systems
· C&G 2391/2 (Inspection & Testing)
